Concrete Canvas Event Description

Concrete Canvas Cancelled (Updated Aug 13, 2025)

It is with sincere regret that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Riverton City Presents: Concrete Canvas Chalk Art Festival due to unforeseen circumstances. While we are disappointed not to gather with our community this year, we are excited to share that our next festival will take place in 2026 as a very special event—our Patriotic Chalk Art Festival—celebrating our country’s 250th birthday. We look forward to honoring this historic milestone together with vibrant art, community spirit, and a shared love for our nation.

We hope to see you next year!

Concrete Canvas: Chalk It Like It’s Hot
Don’t miss an exciting evening of chalk art, live music, and fun at Riverton City’s Friday Fun Nights! Show off your creativity in our chalk art contest while enjoying live performances by The Lonely Hearts Club Band and art demos throughout the evening. Stick around for a movie in the park—Wicked—starting at dusk. Artists of all ages are welcome, but those under 14 must be with an adult. Register early for just $20 by August 1, or $25 after—space is limited and fills up fast. Winning artwork will be featured for a month at the Old Dome Meeting House, and winners can schedule a pickup if they'd like to sell their piece.

When: August 15, 2025
Times: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Create Your Art), 6-7 p.m. (Judging), 7:30 p.m. (Winners Announced)
Where:

Contest Overview
Theme
The theme of the evening is Wicked or The Beatles, in celebration of the movie showing and live music by The Lonely Hearts Club Band, a Beatles cover band. While artwork does not have to follow the theme, only themed entries will qualify for the themed prize.

Materials & Setup
Each artist will receive a 38” x 50” sheet of premium white art paper and a 12-piece pastel chalk set. Artists may bring additional water-based chalk or pastels, but other materials—such as paint or props—are not allowed. All artwork will be created on paper canvases taped to the sidewalk for easy removal and preservation.

Rules & Schedule
Artists may begin working at 10 a.m. and must finish by 6 p.m. Judging will take place immediately after.
All artwork must be family-friendly—no nudity, profanity, offensive content, political messages, advertisements, or brand logos. Copyrighted or trademarked designs should only be used if properly credited.

Demonstrations
1:30 - Dave Christiansen | Airbrushing Demonstration
2:30 - Russ Richards | Chalk Demonstration
3:30 - Lisa Hall - Illustration Demonstration
4:30 - Russ Richards | Chalk Making
5:30 - Adrian Ropp | TBD

Event Guidelines
This is a rain-or-shine event. Artists are responsible for protecting their work from weather using tarps or weights; only extreme weather may result in cancellation. Promotional materials, banners, and props are not allowed. Portable headsets are permitted. Artists must keep their space clean and dispose of trash properly. Placement is first come, first served, but requests to be near specific people or spots may be made (not guaranteed).
