Photography Class - Composition in the Field - Hoboken at Night, NJ

The DPA instructors who lead these workshops are professional photographers.

In Composition in the Field classes, you’ll spend most of your time shooting out in the field, guided every step of the way by an experienced instructor. You’ll practice specific composition strategies as your instructor demonstrates, supervises, and provides feedback, helping you see how to apply these techniques in real-world settings. Your instructor will be by your side the whole way through.

Your instructor will lead you and your fellow students through a variety of photogenic locations that rotate every month in any of the 24 cities where we teach and have taught for the past 20 years—there's street scenes, stunning interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, wildlife, flowers, and more.

Each photo composition strategy is easy to learn but requires slightly different operation of camera controls which are demonstrated in the Master Your Camera Controls class sit-down class that we always teach before Composition in the Field. Each of these different composition strategies enable the photographer to achieve a different visual result even affecting the emotional and storytelling impact of the final photograph.

These sessions are fun, hands-on, and designed to help you take great photos while learning to think strategically about composition. You’ll walk away with skills you can apply anywhere—whether traveling, photographing a birthday party, or capturing everyday moments.
