Leduc Black Gold Rodeo Parade - Official Rules & Guidelines
These rules are established to ensure the safety, organization, and enjoyment of all parade participants and spectators.
All entrants must comply with these regulations.
The float operator or person on‑site responsible for the entry must retain a copy of these rules.
1. HOW TO ENTER
· The Application Form must be completed, signed, and submitted to the Leduc Black Gold Rodeo & Exhibition Association by 4:30 p.m. May 25th, 2026, to allow time for review of entry and confirmation of acceptance.
2. PARADE ROUTE
1. Marshalling Area
· Located south bound along 48A Street and the bus parking area west of the Ecole Leduc Junior High School.
2. Parade Route
· Begins at the 48A intersection with Black Gold Drive, travels west along Black Gold Drive, turning north at 50th Street, travelling north along 50th Street, turning east on 52nd Ave., and finishing at 47th Street. Route is approximately 3 KM from 48thA to 47th Street
3. Parade Dispersal
· North or south along 47th Street. Standard road rules apply after this point.
4. Movement Requirement
· Once the parade begins, all entries must continue along the entire route unless removed by parade officials.
i. Mechanical breakdowns or towing expenses are the responsibility of the entrant.
3. REGISTRATION & MARSHALLING
· Registration begins at 8:00 am.
· Marshalling is along 48thA Street between 46th Ave, and Black Gold Drive.
· Parade officials may refuse entry if registration paperwork and the presented entry do not match.
· The Parade Committee and Parade Marshal may remove any entry at any time.
For Floats, vehicles and walking entries:
1. Only parade entries may enter the marshalling area — no additional vehicles.
2. All entries must check in at the registration table (48thA Street & 46th Ave.).
3. After registering, entries will be directed to their staging position.
4. Multi‑part entries (e.g., two cars or trailers) must arrive together.
5. Riders and walkers may be dropped off on 46th Ave. or 48thA Street north of 46 Ave.
o No drop‑offs allowed inside the marshalling area.
6. Decorating is not permitted in the marshalling area.
For Mounted entries
1. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m.
2. Mounted equine entries must register and marshal in the École Leduc Junior High School parking lot (south side, along 48th Street).
3. Mounted entries will enter the parade from Black Gold Drive at the 48thA Street intersection.
4. THEME & EXPECTATIONS
1. Entries must adhere to the family‑friendly rodeo theme. The Parade Marshal may remove any non‑compliant entry.
2. If the submitted entry form does not match the entry presented, the Association or Parade Marshal may remove the entry.
3. If paperwork is missing, the entrant must complete the form and provide proof of insurance before entering the marshalling area.
5. JUDGING
1. Judging is optional.
2. Entries will be judged in one category only. Categories may be reassigned by the committee.
3. Judging begins at 9:00 a.m.
6. GIVEAWAYS
1. Distribution of candy, edible items, tickets, or coupons is allowed only under these rules:
a. Items must not be thrown from any entry.
b. Items must be handed out by walkers along the curb.
c. Only free tickets or coupons may be distributed.
2. Promotional material (e.g., flyers) is not allowed.
a. Violations may result in removal from the parade and review of future participation.
7. WALKING ENTRIES
1. Walking groups must indicate on the entry form that they intend to walk.
2. Walkers must be able to maintain parade pace over 3 km.
3. Walkers accompanying a float or vehicle must walk behind the entry, not beside it.
8. ANIMAL ENTRIES
1. Animal or reptile entries must remain 10 ft from both curbs and stay within the parade route.
a. No interaction with spectators.
b. Non-compliant entries may be removed.
2. Horse entries must unload in the École Leduc Junior High School parking lot (south, along 48th Street).
9. DECORATING
1. Vehicles not meeting decoration requirements will be refused entry.
a. All vehicles must be clean and decorated to at least 80%, including wrapped vehicles.
- Tow vehicles must be clean and tastefully decorated (not necessarily 80%).
2. Exceptions may be granted for antique vehicles.
3. Verbal commercial advertising is not permitted.
4. Company logos/slogans and public community event details may be displayed.
10. SAFETY RULES
Float Riders & Float Lead
1. Every float with riders must designate a Float Lead responsible for rider safety and conduct.
a. Must remain with the float during staging, movement, and dispersal.
b. Riders must not exit or climb off the float without explicit approval from the Float Lead.
c. The Float Lead ensures:
o Safe loading/unloading
o Compliance with safety rules
- Riders do not enter/exit in unsafe conditions
- It is recommended that all floats carrying riders
a. Have the riders sit while on the float.
b. Alternatively, if riders are standing there should be
o Safety railings of at least 36 inches to 42 inches high above the float deck to prevent falls, or
o Secure, sturdy handholds or stanchions for standing passengers to hold onto in case of sudden braking, or
o Participants are expected to stand in the middle of the float rather than on the edge.
- Riders must keep arms and legs inside the entry at all times.
General Safety
- Vehicle operators are encouraged to use seatbelts, if available.
- Mandatory equipment:
a. Motorized entries must carry a fire extinguisher.
b. All entries must carry a first aid kit.
- Vehicle size limit: Maximum 13.5 feet high, 8.5 feet wide.
- Tow tethers must be 10–15 feet (3.04–4.57 m) long.
- Brakes must be fully operational; this will be confirmed with the driver upon arrival.
- Helmets are required for rollerblading, biking, skateboarding, motorcycles, and off‑highway vehicles.
- No towing of riders on bikes, skates, boards, or off‑highway vehicles.
8. Child/youth supervision:
o All participants under 14 must be directly supervised by a responsible adult.
o Recommended ratio: 1 adult per 5 youth.
Supervising adults must:
o Maintain visual contact.
o Ensure compliance with safety rules.
o Provide immediate assistance if needed.
- Accompany youth as appropriate.
- Drivers must have unobstructed vision and adequate ventilation.
- No smoking on or near floats or motorized entries.
- Horns, sirens, and loud music are permitted only on the parade route, not in marshalling.

- The parade has been a community tradition for over 30 years.
- 8,000–10,000 spectators attend each year.
